By all means change your training if you feel that your meet prep cycle is going to waste time. Even if it works out badly, you've logged it.
The only way to make ground in sport is to log everything and compete regularly. You need to compete on the good days and the bad, you need to get in touch with your body so that you know what you are capable of given any circumstances.
Hell, Bolton missed 3/4 deadlifts before he broke 1003. And he probably thought he was in the best shape of his life. People can go into meets feeling like absolute rubbish and get so psyched up that they blast 2 year old PBs.
What was it that Wendler said? The best way to get strong is to go and lift weight for 10 years so that you can tell when someone is bull****ing; so that you know what works for you.
