in-season training

baseball season is starting this week; that means practice every single day, and throwing every single day. Except for Saturdays: optional workout and Sundays: off
I was thinking of going on an upper/lower split for saturday and sunday. I don't really want to lift during the week, I think my throwing strength would lessen the following day. Is this the right thing to do?

Given this schedule (and I don't know how intense your practices are) I would just go for 1 full body workout per week. I don't know what you do for lifting but make sure to include a squat and bench variations as well as a chin or row variation.

Doing 1 upper and 1 lower will not get you much stronger if at all. 2 workouts like that is for in-season to maintain muscle. Now the more important issue ..... PRACTICE IS NOT IN-SEASON. Unless you are playing games you should not be in maintainence mode. Even fall ball games I would still be working hard. You don't really need to do as much cardio since you have practice but I would lift 3-4 times per week .... either 3 full body's, 2 upper / 2 lower, or upper/lower/upper (then lower/upper/lower the next week). I would do like mon/wed/fri workouts personally and maybe just hit on saturday/sunday. You are suppose to lift after practice but if you can only lift before go because again its just practice so the lifting is still very important.

You can lift more than sat/sun and it will effect you only minimally if it all. The soreness will be the big factor. I would lift shoulders on fri after practice or sat or sun but the rest of the body you can lift away. I have my players in the weight room everyday except game days - even pitchers. It might affect you more early on but after you acclimate a littlt youll be fine.
Here what my players do.
Mon - chest, shoulders, tri's
Wed - legs
Thur - back, biceps
Sat - power movements (cleans, med ball, tires etc)
