Peanut butter. Good? Bad? How much?
Hey all. I'm a college guy. I hit the gym 3-6 times a week and at 5'11, I now weigh 162 lb. (~9% body fat).
I'm somewhat of a health freak. The bread I'm using here is 100% whole grains and the peanut butter is 100% peanuts (no salt, no sugar).
That said, peanut butter is nonetheless fatty. Is it a healthy snack? Should I be eating it? Thanks.

it's a healthy source of energy, in moderation....remember, body uses glycogen as a primary source of energy, and if there is none left, it uses fatty acids, then protein as a last resort...a good amount of dietary fat is required though, as it is an "essential" fatty acid

Peanut butter is fine, just dont make it your only fat source
That being said there is nothing wrong with white bread, salt, or sugar either

It does have a lot of fat, but fat does not equal unhealthy.
It's calorie dense but can be easily worked into a program

Get the natural kind. Smuckers makes a good natural peanut butter, they have one with honey that is delicious. The non-natural stuff has hydrogenated oils in it...which leads to trans-fat. Go natural, its a little gritty and you have to stir it when you first get it..but its worth it.

Some fat actually not only equals HEALTHY but down right ESSENTIAL.
OP, seems you think fat=bad=adipose tissue. That mentality was floating around years ago, but it's far, far from truth; we know better now.
Fat free foods are not only pointless, because you need fat and it can be substituted for carb intake (keto, as an extreme) but they're usually the worst. Bad flavor, pricey and the worst of all - nutritionally very crappy (loads of processed carbs/sugars instead of naturally occurring fat in those foods).
If you have to eat X amount of calories when you got your protein intake and carbs (if you find yourself needing them for energy) in check, you can basically eat Y grams of fat with X amount of calories.

What's wrong with fat? I love to eat peanut butter, and eat a ****load of that stuff. There's no reason I can think of why peanut butter would ever not be an option for a diet.

Arrrgh!! It's been answered ten thousand times and it's not really rocket science. EAT AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE AND IF YOU ARE CONTROLLING YOUR CALORIC INTAKE OR EVEN CUTTING THEN EAT AS MUCH AS FITS INTO YOUR DAILY CALORIC GOAL.

PB is definitely fine in the off season. I use it for my fat in two of my meals a day. Just get your macros straight and add it when necessary.
